IIGJ DIPLOMA BATCH 8 STUDENTS UNDERTAKE Field visit to prince of Wales Museum –    PART OF STUDY ( Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalay)
 
Field Visits have been of crucial importance in the curriculum of IIGJ. The purpose of the visit is usually observation for education, non-experimental research or to provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities of learning. The aim of this research visit is to observe the subject in its natural state and possibly collected samples placed in Museums or Art Galleries.

This semester a field visit was planned for the students of Diploma Batch 8 for the subject of Art History. The students were taken to Prince of Wales Museum (Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalay) on 6th January 2012. The students were accompanied by Design Faculty. The visit commenced from IIGJ at 11.00am. The students on reaching the Museum at 2.00pm were divided into two batches which are lead by the Design faculty to various departments.

The students were first introduced to the common gallery on the ground floor where they saw a glimpse of samples from various departments. Then the students were taken to Pre & Proto Historical Department followed by the excavation and sculpture department. They were then taken to the first floor where they saw various Miniature Paintings, Madhubani Art forms, Kalika Painting forms. They also visited the Coins Gallery which helped them to get deep knowledge as it was also the part of their curriculum.

On the second floor the students were introduced to various art pieces made from Ivory, Porcelain, Metal and also ancient weapons and armory used by the kings during the wars.

They not only gained knowledge with this visit and connect to the topic of Art History more closely but also could collects innovative ideas and motives to create more jewellery.
