Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery is the only full fledged institute offering courses in all aspects of Jewelry Manufacturing, Design, Computer aided Design and Manufacturing, Gemology and Diamond Grading and Jewellery Sales & Marketing.
This year the Institute conducted the Convocation Ceremony for the Fifth batch of diploma students at 11.00 am, on 25th January 2012 at the Navinchandra Auditorium situated in its own campus. Amongst the dignitaries present were Chief Guest Mr. K.K.Srivastav, I.R.S – Customs and Central Excise SEEPZ, Mr. Vasant Mehta, Chairman, Indian Institute of Gems Jewellery, Mrs.Namita Pandya – Convener IIGJ Tardeo, Members of the Board of Directors, Members of the Advisory Board, Members of the Course Committee of IIGJ Mumbai and Col. S. K. Arora, the Head of the Institute. Also present were the parents and relatives of the graduating students, faculty & staff Members.
After the lightening of the ceremonial lamp by the Dignitaries and the chanting of shlokas by the students the ceremony began with a slide show of ‘Glimpz 2011’ showcasing the jewellery collection of the graduating students prepared as part of their final semester graduating project. Graduating students Ms. Shimani Agarwal, Ms. Indraja Chipade and Ms. Richa Shah, were then invited to present the reminiscence of their experience of learning and career-building in the Institute. All of them mentioned about their happy and fruitful time spent in the Institute where their faculty, staff and the Head of the Institute trained and nurtured them to grow in their career in a disciplined way.
Mr. Vasant Mehta, Chairman- IIGJ, then addressed the fresh graduates and mentioned that he was delighted to see that the young students are cultivating interest in the field of jewellery. He advised them to strive to make their business smart by exploring new opportunities. He assured them that they have a bright future in carrier as the jewellery industry is being more diversified from just gold jewellery of the past to the gem and diamond studded jewellery.
Mrs. Namita Pandya was then invited on the podium to address the graduates. In her speech she explained the students’ importance of design study and how one could be connected with the changing trends in the Jewellery Industry. She also mentioned that due to the exceeding rated of precious metals the export market is now accepting change in the consumer demand and making jewellery from metals like silver. She mentioned that students should also mould themselves according to this changing trend and behavior of the Consumer.
Mr. K.K.Srivastav addressed gathering and elaborated upon the progress of the industry in the last five years and wished the students best luck. He then presented the diplomas to the passed out students. He also presented the ‘Best Student’s Trophy’ to Ms. Shimani Agarwal who topped the fifth batch of diploma students, followed by the Merit certificated to the next three rank holders namely Ms.Raina Bhansali in the second rank, Ms.Avisha Parekh in the third rank and Ms. Indraja Chipade in the fourth rank.
Finally Mr. Prem Kothari gave a vote of thanks and expressed his happiness to see the close collaboration of the industry in the growth of IIGJ Mumbai.
